Everyone’s talking about the recently released Google Chrome. What I was wondering was, how does it stack up memory wise? I took each of these browsers, removed all plugins and cleared the cache then noted the memory usage after loading them. This is by no means a scientific experiment, but I tried to keep things equal. The first test was loading each browser with about:blank:

As you can see, Firefox is easily the biggest memory hog. While Opera seems to take the cake as far as running lean, Chrome isn’t far behind. It uses much less memory than FF or IE.Then, I loaded up each browser, and browsed to fark.com (again this isn’t a scientific study) and had some interesting results:

I found that each of them increased, naturally but it looks like Chrome was the clear winner this time. It seemed to gain very little by loading up a website. Does this mean it uses less memory and runs more efficiently? Possibly. It would seem if you want to conserve memory, or simply like running faster, you should try out Chrome.Interested in trying a new browser?
